Race Rules
All teams must have four individual drivers for the A Main. The idea behind this race is not one of the smartest we've had. Whether you're racing or watching, you're doing so at your own risk.
Cars & Trucks
- 4-cylinder vehicles only. No rotary-type engines.
- 2-wheel-drive vehicles only.
- You must have at least one working brake light when the race starts.
- A seat belt, door, and helmet are required for everyone riding in the car. Helmets must be DOT approved with a chin strap. No batting helmets, bicycle helmets, or hard hats. Those are not legal headgear.
- Bumpers. See bumper rules below.
- One fire extinguisher in every car, and one in the pit for every team.
- Unaltered street-tread tires only. No mud terrain, no all terrain, no snow tires.
- All rear-wheel-drive vehicles must start the race with mud flaps.
Race Teams
- Each team must have a minimum of four licensed drivers. Drivers under 18 require parent/guardian consent.
- The driver must have a functioning RACEceiver and respond to communications. Find one on Amazon or at Day Motorsports in Tyler.
- Team drivers must change when instructed to do so.
- Drivers are not allowed to drive multiple shifts in the same car.
- Each team must provide a safety corner flagger if it's determined they'll be needed.
- Pit area is limited to one car length in width.
- ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts are allowed for utility work only on race day.
- No weapons of any kind.
- Drinking is not a requirement.
- Teams must be registered by a predetermined date ($100). A $50 late fee applies after that date. You can pay at the Driver's Meeting or the morning of the race.
- Pre-event driver's meeting attendance is recommended and usually influences a team's starting position.
Claims
- Claim amount is $1,500.
- Claim must be made by the end of the 50th lap.
- A claim may only be made by an active race team member.
- Claim is cash in hand to the Safety Coordinator.
- The claimee will be advised of a claim, but not who made it.
- First claim is the claim.
- Teams can deny a claim, but the car is banned for life. The team can continue to participate.
- The Claim Board will decide on any discrepancies.
Recommendations
- Roll bars.
- Designate a driver, or plan to stay and camp.
- Disengage the air bags.
Safety
- A red flag means stop immediately. Repeat offenders can expect severe punishment and public embarrassment (TBD).
- Pit stops are mandatory for any of the following: a flat tire, causing a red flag, or multiple non-stops on a red flag.
- Black flag. Exit the track to the pits immediately.
- Rubbing is racing, but be smart about it. This is not a demolition derby.
- A valid driver's license is required to be in the pit area.
- No kids allowed in the pits.
- Head of Safety decisions are final.
- No weapons of any kind.
Bumper Rules
Using the original stock bumper is the easiest and preferred FRed Lobster bumper. With this option you'll need to remove the plastic cover.
Front and back bumpers are limited to one of the following:
- Original stock bumpers, front and back.
- A one-piece fabricated bumper no larger than 1.5″ schedule-40 pipe, or 2″ × .120 square tubing.
No sharp edges. Tuck and round anything you add that isn't stock. Don't have anything sticking out that could puncture a tire or pierce a panel. Bumpers must follow the contour of the car and not extend past the car's width. If the safety inspector doesn't like it, be prepared to cut it.
Radiator Protectors
Must be behind your bumper and no larger than 1″ square or round pipe/tube. They can't extend past where your radiator is mounted. Stay inside the frame rails. (The best radiator protector is the person behind the steering wheel.)
Transponders
Each car needs two working transponders. They handle lap counting and timing during the FRed Lobster 100. Install them securely and in the proper location. Loose, hidden, backwards, or badly mounted transponders cause missed laps. If you're unsure where they go, ask another driver or look at a returning car.
A simple shield can help keep mud from building up on the transponders. Don't place the shield too close, though. It may cause interference.
Friday Testing
We check all transponders on Friday during the heat races to verify they're reading on the lap-counting system. If yours don't register during the heats, you'll need to replace them before Saturday's main event.
Transponder issues are one of the biggest things that slow us down on Friday, so check yours ahead of time. If they're more than two years old, or look faded, cracked, or weathered, go ahead and change them out now.
